Roy Germano directed, produced, shot, and edited The Other Side of Immigration, an award-winning documentary film about why so many Mexicans immigrate to the US and what happens to the families and communities they leave behind. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Texas at Austin, where he received the university’s highest honor for a graduate student. Dr. Germano has conducted extensive research in the Mexican countryside with support from the National Science Foundation. His dissertation advances a unique theory about the billions of dollars Mexican immigrants send home every year. The Other Side of Immigration grew out of Dr. Germano’s research. This, his first film, has screened at dozens of universities, conferences, and film festivals in the U.S. and Europe since 2009. He is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Comparative Politics at the New School in New York City and frequently speaks about immigration issues at universities and conferences around the country.
